Susan feels safe at home because of your kindness!

Ten years ago, Susan made the difficult decision to leave an unhealthy relationship, “my life was in turmoil, and I needed to get away,” she said. With limited options, Susan relied on help from her daughter who suggested she move to a Cornerstone property.

“My daughter told me that I would be very safe in these apartments, and it turns out I was,” she said. “I love it here!”

Before affordable housing, Susan’s health was deteriorating, she was sick often and didn’t want to leave her room. She was struggling financially and afraid she wouldn’t be able to pay her bills. Now she has a budget she can stick to and come out ahead each month. She doesn’t have to worry whether the electricity will be turned off or if she has enough food to eat. She also gets relief from her adorable therapy dog, Daisy May. The two of them leave the house every day to go for walks, wave and bring smiles to the neighbors, and help tend the community gardens.

Susan’s journey out of a harmful relationship and into a life of independence and health wouldn’t be possible without your support. You have helped someone find safety and stability in a home and the joy of having a community that she doesn’t want to leave.

Bright Futures Ahead
Thanks to your support, kids have access to STEM programs.

The beautiful summer weather has made way for incredible community events for residents. So many families have come out to enjoy a slice of pizza, some lawn games and a chance to connect with their neighbors.

Not only are you helping create a wonderful community atmosphere, but you’re also helping families link with resources that are available for their children during the summer months.

Most recently, kids were given access to the Central Oregon STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Hub program. Their goal is to help prepare students to be critical thinkers, career ready and college-bound students, and informed global citizens through integrated STEM opportunities in and out of the classroom.

This is just one of the ways that your support influences the lives of children in the community and gives them tools that lead to a bigger and brighter future. Thank you!

Puppet Show for Youth
Kids are learning life skills thanks to your dedication to affordable housing.

In today’s world there are so many challenges that a child will face growing up. Thats why its so important that kids learn skills to manage their emotions and feelings as they develop.

Kids at Cornerstone communities were treated to a series of puppet shows, hosted by the Clackamas Women’s Service, that taught helpful practices, like breathing, positive self talk and how to express your feelings.

Activities like this are a hit with the kids, but they also go a long way in their development. Your generosity doesn’t just help people stay housed, you’re prioritizing children’s health and wellness too!

Let’s go to the farm
Healthy living and blueberry picking!

Every summer residents delight in monthly trips with their neighbors. They get out of the house, soak up some sun and share a few laughs with one another.

This July, the group headed to the farm to pick ripe, delicious blueberries at Adkins Farm near Goshen, OR.

“Adkins farm was an absolute blast! Rows and rows of the most delicious blueberries. Everyone had a great time,” said Resident Services Coordinator, Liz, who joined in on the fun.

Going to the farm and picking local produce is a crowd favorite amongst residents. Your generosity is why trips to the farm, and many more activities like it are possible.
